There are subtle differences between dried flowers and silk flowers when used in wreaths. Each has its own distinct qualities, yet both add color and texture to the arrangement. Both types of flowers need care to ensure their lasting qualities as silk flowers can fade, while dried flowers are fragile.

Cleaning Differences
Cleaning wreaths (whether with silk or dried flowers) is accomplished in much the same manner. Silk flowers are naturally less fragile than dried flowers but still need a delicate touch when removing dust and debris. Both types of flowers can be lightly cleaned with a soft feather duster. A hair dryer set to no heat can help blow away surface dust.
Silk flowers can also be cleaned with canned air sprays. Dried flowers can also be dusted in this way but due to the fragility of dried flowers, care should be taken not to damage petals with hard blasts of air. Never use water or any other cleaning solution on dried or silk flowers as it may cause mold or staining.
Storage of Silk or Dried Flower Wreaths
Storage of both silk and dried flower wreaths is similar as well. Soft packing can include newspaper or tissue. A cardboard box in the appropriate size works well for storage. Store all wreaths in a dark dry place. Storage is not recommended in basements or attics as the humidity and temperature changes can damage the wreath or cause mold. Proper storing of silk or dried flower accented wreaths will ensure a long life and beautiful color retention.
